Basic Communication Module is a specialty module that is used within the SLC 500 Product family. Occupies single slot of any 1746 chassis and used in modular or fixed style hardware of SLC 500.

- The major difference of this module is that this module is the higher speed version of the 1746-BAS.
- This module enables data collection and integration capability of a SLC 500 controller.
- Allowing the system to integrate and collect data in the plant floor for communicating with Human Machine Interface (HMI) devices, modems, printers and other data collection devices.
- This module has LED indicators to provide quick information regarding the module’s activity.
- Connect in daisy-chain configuration for programming and configuration purposes only.
- Connect Personal computer through the RS232 with a 1747-PIC converter.
- This converter transforms the RS232 interface to 485 which supports daisy-chain topology.
- comes with 24 KB of battery-backed RAM for storing user programs and data.
- Equipped with a socket for a 1771-DBMEM1 or a DBMEM2 memory module.
- Built-in battery-backed clock.
