1746-IO12 SLC 500 Input/Output Combination Module by Allen-Bradley. It has 120V AC rated inputs and relay contact outputs. It has an operational input voltage range between 85 and 132V AC and an output range of 5-265V AC at 47-63 Hz and 5-125V DC also at 47-63Hz. The 1746-IO12 has a Chassis backplane current draw of 0.090A at 5V DC and one of 0.070A at 24V DC. Its output point has a contact rating of 2.0A output in continuous current and a maximum output power of 28VA. The signal on both the input and output points has a maximum delay time of 35ms for ON state and 45ms for OFF state.



The 1746-IO12’s contact output is a Normally-Open contact (N.O.) type and each output has a nominal continuous current of 1.5A at 120V AC and one of 1.2A at 24V DC. It has 0.27W per input point, 0.133W per output point maximum power dissipation, and the aggregate heat dissipation in the module is 4.60W. The 1746-IO12 has a 0-60 deg. Celsius (32-140 deg. Fahrenheit) functional temperature range at a humidity between 5-95% without condensation and it can be stored at a temperature range between -4 and 85 °. Celsius (-40 and 185 deg. Fahrenheit). It provides Electro-optical isolation tested at 1500V between the I/O terminals and the control logic and it offers a NEMA standard ICS 2-230 rated noise immunity. The 1746-IO12 can withstand a functional vibration of 2.5G at 57-200Hz operational vibration and it can maintain its optimum function at a 30G operational shock.



The Allen-Bradley 1746-IO12 is a combination Input / Output module that belongs to the SLC 500 controller platform.



This module is a single slot module that directly installs to the SLC 500 chassis. It has Six (6) 120 VAC inputs and Six (6) Form A contact output (Normally Open). This module is a cost-effective component as it allows chassis slot and panel slot saving through the module’s dual operation capability.



The input functionality of this voltage is similar to the 1746-IA16 module that accepts voltage range of 85-132 VAC. However, it has lesser number of inputs. The Relay output of this module is comparable to the 1746-IO8 or 1746-IO4, having more relay outputs compared to the 1746-IO4 and lesser outputs compared to 1746-IO8.



Similar to other SLC 500 modules, this combination module may also be mixed with other modules of the SLC 500 product family and be placed in expansion or local chassis except the slot dedicated for the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) processor.







The module’s operation may be degraded when exposed to chemicals. Regular maintenance and loop validation are recommended to determine if the module’s operation remains within the acceptable operating limits and process reaction. If a significant degradation is found, the module may be replaced with the same part-number without any reconfiguration needed however, only replace modules without an active supply power.
